Sophie Winkleman Talks Smartphones and EdTech with William Clouston, SDP Leader

Big tech companies are selling schools the “digital classroom” as the future. It promises faster learning, smarter kids, and Silicon Valley-ready students.

But the truth? It’s unproven, overstimulating, and frequently harmful.

✅ Studies show kids using paper and pen score significantly higher than those learning on screens – the equivalent of six extra months of schooling.
✅ Reading from a book and handwriting physically embeds knowledge in the brain. Screens just don’t.
✅ Even Sweden realised this the hard way, they rolled back EdTech in classrooms after research showed it was impairing learning, not helping it.

At Safe Screens, we believe kids deserve connection, guidance, and hands-on learning, NOT algorithms and apps.
